A Musical Expression Of Connection.
We are honored to welcome back Jordan Bartel and ensemble, returning this year to perform Felix Mendelssohn’s Octet in E-flat major, Op. 20.
Written when Mendelssohn was just 16, this extraordinary work was composed not for one ensemble, but for two string quartets—distinct groups designed to meet, respond, and intertwine. In performance, something remarkable happens:
- Voices remain distinct, yet deeply connected
- Themes pass back and forth in dialogue
- Eight musicians create one sweeping, unified sound
It is music built on connection—call and response, individuality and unity, tension and harmony. A living reminder that we are strongest not alone, but together.
