Connection
Is What
Protects Us.
Our prevention-focused model is grounded in evidence, shaped by teens, and built to strengthen protective factors before a crisis occurs.

Our Approach
Why Our Model Works.
Teen mental health challenges continue to rise, while many young people struggle to access timely support and meaningful connection. Unlike emergency and clinical services that intervene during a crisis, the Ryan Bartel Foundation focuses on prevention — helping teens build resilience, strengthen relationships, and develop healthy coping skills before challenges escalate.
Our evidence-informed programs strengthen protective factors linked to positive mental wellness outcomes, including social connection, trusted support, emotional awareness, resilience, and belonging. Through supportive experiences and creative engagement, young people gain practical tools to navigate loneliness, stress, anxiety, and emotional challenges while feeling seen, supported, and connected.

What We Believe.
We believe young people thrive when they feel connected, supported, and part of a community that sees their value. Connection is one of the strongest protective factors in youth mental wellness — and it is at the center of everything we do.
To strengthen this, we intentionally design our programs as an interconnected whole. Trained adult facilitators and peer mentors are present in every space, working alongside young people to create consistent, trusted relationships across all touchpoints of our programs. This layered support system ensures that no young person is ever engaging in isolation, but instead is surrounded by multiple points of connection, guidance, and belonging.
This integration of trained adults and empowered peers creates a network of support that reinforces learning, deepens trust, and strengthens outcomes across every program we offer.
What Sets Us Apart.

Teen-Informed & Evidence-Based.
Our programs are shaped by research, teen feedback, and lived experience. Because we know every teen is unique, we design every program to cater to different needs and interests, all while strengthening protective factors like connection, resilience, and belonging.
Accessible & Affordable.
We meet teens where they are — after school, on weekends, and during school breaks — through free or low-cost programs that reduce barriers to participation.

Scalable Through Training & Leadership.
Through The FORT Facilitator Training and FORT Ambassador Program, we equip both adults and teens to become effective mentors and extend this work into schools and communities around us.
